Tietoja minustaBook hoarder, lapsed historian, frustrated bureaucrat, assistant beekeeper, budding genealogist. Hopefully cured of a tendency to make ridiculously bad life choices, the kind that create execrable, tortured poetry. Recently retired and considering peddling used books and gourmet coffee. Maybe some wine, cheese and chocolate too. Writing a novel and shopping for an agent.
I have a tiny, neglected blog about bees, books and gardens. Please visit the Bee's Book Garden. www.beesbookgarden.wordpress.com
The Annual Varielle Awards for Literature for 2020 are announced!
Book of the Year goes to The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating. I was recovering from back surgery when I read this. If you have a pal that's down and out give them this book.
Most likely to convince you that monster live among us award goes to The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break. Always be nice to your service people because you never know who they really are and they might just eat you.
Most likely to make you go for a long walk award goes to Wanderlust: A History of Walking.
Most Reflective Award goes to The White Book.
Most likely to make you book a trip to China award as soon as the pandemic is over award goes to Lost in Translation which is not the basis for the Scarlett Johansson Bill Murray movie.
Most Disturbing Award goes to The Blind Owl. I'm still disturbed about it.
Most needs to be made into a Merchant Ivory movie award goes to Burmese Days staring a younger Ralph Fiennes.
Most upsetting award goes to The Border and the Buffalo where you will find out things about American History you never wanted to know.

According to www.mymentalage.com I'm really only 34. We'll just leave it at that.

Tietoja kirjastostaniIt's a foundling home for books. We are trying to be more selective, but they keep following me home. Now that the cabin in the sky is finally completed, my book collection is split between the cabin in the sky which holds mostly read books and the future retirement home along the Matanzas River which holds the unread books. Stuffed to the gills, I don’t have room to properly display any of them.
I've despaired of digital books. So don't go there.
