When fellow Curiosity Club member, Alice Baker-Greene dies in a mountain climbing accident, Veronica is part of the memorial team. But when Stoker sees the rope, he realizes that the woman may have actually been killed when her rope was cut.

Princess Gisella travels from her country of Alpenwald to England to be part of the memorial ceremony. The first meeting reveals that Gisella and Veronica have a strong resemblance. So, when Gisella disappears, the Alpenwald delegation presses Veronica to act as the princess putting both Veronica and Stoker in the middle of a murder investigation with significant political ramifications.
