John Habberton (1842–1921)

Original indigo designer cloth with gilt Sphinxs flanking author's initials above gilt title in black field. Includes a collection of 36 sketches, many set in mining camps during the California Gold Rush by the popular late 19th century author of Helen's Babies. Many pieces from Frank Leslie's Illustrated Weekly. Illustrated with 23 full-page plates and 26 textual illustrations, engraved on better quality paper. Noted as "Sold Only By Subscription."
