Tietoja minusta I can't remember a time when I wasn't an avid reader; now I enjoy sharing books with my (also avid) nine-year-old son. We're currently living in the Bay Area, although plan to move to Tucson sometime in 2008. Right now, I'm a stay-at-home mom, trying to figure out what I want to do when I grow up (I'll be making some decisions about that in 2008, too). I'm also a certified yoga teacher, singer (soprano), birder, and BookCrosser.

Tietoja kirjastostani I've entered all of the books I can remember reading over the course of my lifetime; I'm sure I'm missing a good number, but certainly all those which made a big impression are listed here, with at least a short review. I've decided not to try and catalogue all the books I own; they'll make it onto the list after I've read them (I have a few thousand books in my home; it would take me forever to enter them all here, and some of them will probably never be read by me, so I'm not going to make that effort). I am also keeping a wish list here, though, so I can keep track of books I don't own, but would like to read someday (tag: wish list).

A word about my ratings. Obviously, overall, I'm rating books on how much I enjoyed them, or how well I feel they serve their "purpose" (the thoroughness of educational books, for example). I recently made one change, though, to the way I'm using ratings. I've decided to only give a rating of five stars to those books which really touched my heart or my life in some way; in other words, to my absolute, all-time favorites. This means I've recently down-graded several books I previously listed as five-star, which is unfortunate in a way, because many of them were excellent books, worthy of the stars. But having too many five-star books in my library kind of makes the rating meaningless to me, personally. So, I suppose it's fair to say that anything I have rated at least four-and-a-half stars is a book I thought was excellent, and well-worth reading.

I've already met my overall reading goal for 2007, which was to read 150 books. (I think I'd done this by June). Right now, I've decided not to push myself with more goals, although I am trying to read several books which have been on my TBR pile for ages, plus some new-to-me classics. I think I'll try for another 150 in 2008, although this might be a challenge with the life changes I have ahead. It's good to have goals, though. :)

In your review of Strangers in Paradise, you say "I'm also in such awe of the woman who drew these." Just so you know, Terry is a guy :) He's a middle aged, really sweet guy, who was kind enough to make me a quick sketch of Katchoo when I met him, and I can say without a doubt that he is definitely not a woman. He does write amazing female characters though.
Your review of Quindlen's Black and Blue made me chuckle. "Typical Oprah read - interesting, but not a lot of fun." True for a lot of them. :-D
Thank you! I'll snag the photo and send it to her. She'll love it. Don't worry, she won't use it for commercial purposes.

Happy whatever you celebrate!
Wonderful pic. Is it copyrighted? If so, may I have permission to send it to my daughter? Thanks, one way or the other. :-)
Great to meet you! Thanks for accepting my friendship. I'm looking forward to checking out your library and I hope you enjoy mine.
Is "Confessions" written in the same style as "Wicked?" I have to say the jumping around turned me off even more than the violence, sex, etc. I DO like alternative fairy tales though, which is what attracted me to Wicked. Plus, I love the idea of a story from the villain's point of view. Maybe I'll check Confessions at the library and give it a shot (though after the several books I am dying to get too first). Thanks for the recommendation!

Oh, and I love the idea of challenging yourself to read a certain number of books a year. My challenge is to read more than I buy. LOL!
Hi! We have 55 books in common. I guess that's not a lot compared to the 300 you share with atlaswinks, but I only have 343 books in my library. Good luck on your goals!
P.S. I live in California too!
Welcome to Books Compared. We have quite a few books in common, so I'm looking forward to reading a comparison review from you!
I see we have almost 300 books in common and I still have quite a bit of children's books to enter, so I bet we top 300 in common by the time I finish! Good luck achieving your goal of 150 books!
Hi. Are the 3 Investigators books still in print, or are your copies holdovers from your childhood? I also have fond memories of them, and would love to find them for my two boys. Maybe they'll be inspired to read something besides manga. Not that there's anything wrong with that...
