Hey,

I spent the first thirteen years of my life in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, licking zmrzlina. And now I only dream of both Bratislava and zmrzlina, seems like many lifetimes later. How did you come to select that lovely word as your name?
I found a biography & info on Cooper Edens here: http://biography.jrank.org/pages/1987/Ed.... I only have two of his books, but hope to have them all. He is enchanting.

In response to review the person 2 places before. . . .We share "The Bee Man of Orn." I hope yours is the edition with wonderful pictures by Maurice Sendak, since many of the book's 46 pages in mine have more picture than text! For those who do not know the book we can say it is a superb resolution of an identity crisis. We can tell them how a minor bureaucrat can disturb a peaceful existence, but, luckily, all's well at the end. . . and tell them to read it too. esta1923
It's required for a cold war literature class. It's a really great course so far. We've had to read Catcher in the Rye, Catch-22, Crying of Lot 49, White Noise, Slaughterhouse-5, Invisible Man & Snow Crash.
I hadn't heard of Woman in the Dunes before but it sounds fascinating. I'll have to add it to my already-lengthy TBR list. I hope you enjoy The House of the Spirits. I didn't didn't find the magic realism in it nearly as overwhelming as, say, One Hundred Years of Solitude.

I studied abroad in Prague for a semester and spent some time traveling in Slovakia too. I never came anywhere close to fluency, but I absolutely loved the language.
I know "zmrzlina," just can't pronounce it :-) I have only been to Praha in Czech Republic, but I've been to more of Slovakia than most Slovaks. Zmrzlina is the same in Slovak.

Your comment about In the House of Spirits in the Where in the World Are You Now? group, and then your review, got me to reconsider releasing that book without reading. I've become a bit tired of the magical realism thing, but I think I'll give it another go.

Thank you for adding me to your interesting library list. I am not much of a reviewer, usually just a few lines, but I do try to get something jotted down for all the books I read. Got tons to add, and will do so once the site is stable.
Oh my god! Somebody else who knows my favorite Czech word! :)

P.S. I've added you to my interesting libraries list since I enjoyed reading your reviews.
