Stämningsfyllda fotografier och vackra akvareller vittnar också om njutningen i att leva gott. Följ med Georgeanne Brennan på hennes resa till de franska torgen med sina lokala specialiteter som gör det franska köket till ett av världens främsta.

I loved this book! I must say that I have never in this world thought about using a cooking instead of a graham cracker. Something so simple just got kicked up to a whole different level. I really like the coconut shrimp from Jedd's Bed of Shrimp. I absolutely love shrimp and cannot wait to remake this recipe in my own home. Also the moose drink sounds pleasant as well. That may just be a new party favorite of mine depending on if I can correctly recreate it. I absolutely loved how the author had little snippets of poems about the recipes it was such a cute little added fun. Loved it!

I'm a fan of food memoirs that focus mostly on the food and this was one of those. She describes the different types of meals and dishes and learning to cook in the regional French way with great detail and a fluidity that was very easy to read. I can't wait to try some of the easier recipes.

It's hard to rate a cookbook. Especially when it has nothing in it Ill actually cook.

I bought this book simply because it was Dr. Seuss and that was it. I thought it was funny.

The recipes all sound weird and I don't think I would eat any of them. The only thing that makes them Dr. Seuss related is the custom made bowls and dishes used to display them. They aren't going to look like that when someone else makes them.

This is just a book that's going to sit on my shelf and make people laugh. It's not going to be used for it's intended purpose.

A delightful slice of life, food, family and friends based on the author's extended residencies in Provence. It makes you long for a simpler, more authentic way of life where the relationship with food, its production, preparation, cooking and eating is bound up with the day to day fabric of surviving and enjoying what the earth has to offer, and not complicated and endlessly overblown by what's trendy or fashionable. Focused primarily on food and cooking, it gives glimpses into the author's family life and relationships with two husbands as well as many good friends, but it's not a memoir, unless you want to define it as a food memoir. If you love books like "Under the Tuscan Sun", "A Year in Provence" and so on, you'll love this one

Recommended for every teacher who has a collection of Dr. Seuss's books in the classroom library. A very good collection of recipes that come from Dr. Seuss's widely acclaimed books. The recipes are extraordinarily entertaining and should be fed in the classroom with the students while reading one of Dr. Seuss's children books. I was really shocked to see that he has a book on recipes but it will d.o no harm to have it. I enjoyed every bit of this. My favorite recipe in this book is called, Jedd's Bed of Shrimp.

This book has made me drool and slaver and happily refer to the recipes. Imagine escaping from the US's involvement from the Vietnam War by fleeing to Provence with a small daughter and a plan to learn how to herd goats and make cheese. The modern reader is daunted by this lackadaisical plan for generating income. Imagine making all that work out on faith and no Google or Wikipedia.

Liked the idea that the older residents are still proud of having been partisans during WWII, and furthermore are quite satisfied with having kicked the occupying German soldiers back to the curb.

I want mushrooms, red wine, garlic bread and bouillabaisse soooo bad and I am not even half way through this book.

Much, much later: in 2018 I came back to finish reading this book. I wanted to read about the pleasure of food after "Surviving Paradise," because a year of eating not much but plain white rice in the Marshall Islands sounds just terrible. I had no idea that a tropical paradise can be a food desert.

This book could be used for rhyming, writing imaginative recipes, and creating those recipes in art form.

Beautifully photographed. There are several recipes here I've marked to be sure to try out before the holidays roll around. Wait, this is October? Before the 2012 holiday season, for sure.

The packaging ideas were less exciting than the recipes.

Definitely had good specific information, but I thought there would be more of a variety since the book was all about herbs. If you're looking for a beginners how-to on planting standard herbs, this is the book for you. And screw all of you who will make fun of me for reading this, I wanted to make sure I was doing it right.

Reading this because of Patricia Curtain's reference to Brennan in Chez Panisse Menus.

6/10 - Glad that I read it to get a historical look at when concepts like cuisine a potager and cuisine a la marche were sort of new here in the U.S. but it felt dated. And the photos were simply terrible.

Another of the cookbooks I prize because of the way it feels. Stupendous production, design and photos both. Even the copyright information is formatted to look like a wine glass. There is no way this sort of book could be matched by an ebook production. Try the Dried Figs with Bacon and Goat Cheese.

This is a real cookbook. The recipes are simple enough for children to follow (say, 8-12, or older), but they're not bland and boring recipes. They are mostly from scratch and with good ingredients. They are appealing to children but appropriate for adult tastes as well. Did I mention that they also are named after foods in Dr. Seuss books? With quotes and illustrations from the texts, and explanations for the recipes, this is a great choice for a cook who also likes Dr. Seuss. If you get it for a non-cook, they'll enjoy the pictures, but they may not cook much from it.

July is a great time to plan ahead for your Christmas gift giving. If you are thinking of trying something new this year, Georgeanne Brennan's book, "Christmas Gifts from the Kitchen", is just what you need to get things started. How about whipping up a recipe of Plum-Vanilla Preserves? Or a batches of Chocolate Shortbread and Chewy Ginger-Molasses Cookies? There's also Savory Palmiers, Kugelhopf, and Sugar and Spice Pecans. All would make excellent gifts to give to your special someone.

This book is chock full of easy-to-follow recipes that are sure to delight even the grumpiest Scrooge on your holiday gift giving list. The book is divided into the following chapters: Introduction; Cookies; Cakes, Bars & Breads; Candies & Confections; Savory Treats; Preserved Delights; and an Index. Many of the recipes have full color photos. Plus, the book includes tips for how to present and package your homemade goodies.

The Bottom Line: While this cookbook assumes some previous baking experience, there are recipes for bakers of all levels. Recommended with enthusiasm for everyone.

Not only will young chefs learn the secret ingredient to making Green Eggs and Ham, they will also be able to browse this cookbook for recipes like Pink Yink Ink Drink, Zans' Cans Chili, and Who-Roast-Beast. Each recipe is accompanied by illustrations and rhymes from the Dr. Seuss book that inspired the concoction.

I love this book and return to it each year for inspiration. The author does a charming job of explaining the philosophy and rhythm of the year-round potager. We are invited to apply the principles to our locale, climate, and palate. And the illustrations are simple and charming. They make me want to paint my garden!
