The text in this book is a collection of Mother Goose type nursery rhymes, but the illustrations are very pretty. Two children are depicted in different Mediterranean (Italian, to be precise) settings. The copy we picked up is signed by the illustrator who gave this book to a little girl called Donna for Christmas in 1979. ( )

This is a long poem about a girl named Mary who goes through different parts of her land beginning at the garden and going through fountains and lanes and cities and towns. The book is very imaginative and catchy because of the rhyme. The illustrations are beautiful and thought provoking.
