A battle of wills is ignited when a Viking's daughter is forced to marry a Scottish warrior knight. During a bloody borderland skirmish, thirteen-year-old Waryk de Graham wields his slain father's sword and vanquishes the Norman enemy. Ten years later, with King Henry I dead and the English succession in chaos, Waryk, the newly knighted Laird Lion, is once again fighting for his Scottish homeland - this time against Normans and Vikings alike. But it is for the heart of one extraordinary woman that the great warrior will wage his fiercest battle. The daughter of a Gaelic noblewoman and a Viking warlord, proud, independent Lady Mellyora MacAdin of Blue Isle is a formidable swordswoman who yields to no man. When Scotland's King David decrees that she marry the war-scarred knight Waryk in order to keep the Viking island secure for his kingdom, she defiantly rebels. Come the Morning is the first novel in Heather Graham's medieval Scottish series that introduces the Graham clan, Gaelic-speaking Lowlanders who fight with their Highland brethren for the country they love. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Heather Graham, including rare photos from the author's personal collection. Come the Morning is the 1st book in the Graham Clan series, but you may enjoy reading the series in any order.… (lisätietoja)

Come the Morning
By Heather Graham

Can someone please just shut this bitch up? All the heroine does is argue and fight and run away and cause more trouble. Here’s a woman living in 12th century Scotland who disrespects the king and her betrothed and just about everyone she comes across yet somehow, everyone shows patience and allows her to continue her shenanigans.

I could not stand the heroine, Melyora MacAdin. She was a spoiled brat who thought she should get everything her way but it was her constant bickering and arguing that drove me batty. It took up most of the book. The only reason I kept reading was because the author is extremely knowledgeable about Scottish history and it was fascinating. I learned a ton from just reading this story. It kept me from ripping the imaginary pages out of my e-reader whenever Melyora opened her mouth.

I did like the hero, Waryk de Graham. I liked how he handled Melyora. He didn’t over react and let her make herself look like a fool with all her idiotic schemes. He was a true hero.

I finished the book and decided to read the added excerpt from the next book in the series before I actually purchased it just on the off chance that this author would make another heroine so shrewish. Boy, am I glad I read it! It saved me time and money. Heather Graham obviously thinks impulsive and spoiled argumentative women are what makes a strong woman but it just made me want to slap the brat. It ruined what could have been a good book.

I won’t be buying another Heather Graham book.

You have to enjoy historical battle descriptions to get through the beginning chapters. The rest becomes a better than average historical romance. ( )

I'm not interested in reading books where the "hero" RAPES the heroine. ( )

I found this to be a fascinating story. I wanted to stay up all night and finish but, alas, my mind and body had other ideas. Drake certainly did her homework regarding this historical period and the way she wound this love story around the political unrest of the time was terrific. Waryk de Graham is one of King David's greatest warriors. So great, that he has been knighted Lord Lion. Waryk came to be in the King's good graces during a battle that found his father and several family members killed. He wakes amongst the dead, severely wounded and happens to see the enemy take hold of the remaining warriors that were hiding in a small house nearby. He crashes that party, saving many men. The King sees his bravery and decides to take Waryk, a young boy at the time, under his wing. Fast forward to where Waryk has recently fought in battle and the king has summoned him to court.Mellyora MacAdin, is the daughter of a Viking warlord. Her father, Adin, has suddenly died and she has been summoned to see the King. She is of the belief that she will go see the King and he will agree to let her rule her lands. Many have told her this won't happen, but she thinks otherwise. She has fallen in love with Ewan and parts from him vowing to return and they will be together forever. Not if the King has his way.Waryk and Mellyora are thrown together when King David insists they marry so he can continue to hold political access to Mellyora's father's land. Neither of them are too happy about the arrangement, especially Mellyora. Having never met Waryk, she imagines her betrothed to be a decrepit old Norman barbarian, when, in fact, he's a gorgeous Scot. Her different ways of trying to escape her pending nuptials are hilarious. Come the Morning had several spots in the book that I really couldn't put it down because I was so curious with what could happen next. I'm an avid reader and it's not very often that I'm utterly taken by a story. This one's a keeper. ( )
