A little of this one at a time is fun, but not a book to sit down and read in one sitting. I'm sure that's not how it's intended, either, but that's just how it worked out for me. It's fun at the beginning, but the conceit gets a little wearying after a while. Also, I was reading an ARC so I'm hoping parts were updated for consistency before publishing. The "voice" of Pepe the King Prawn is inconsistent throughout--and perhaps this was the biggest issue. The parts where the character came through strongly were good. Thanks to my sister for sending it to me! It was a fun one. ( ) Right off the bat, let me tell you that this probably isn’t worth the money. (My copy was $16.95 plus tax less the Disney Annual Passholder discount. I’ll let you figure out the final total.) Second at bat, it is hilarious, and I’d spend the money again. The great thing about Pepe (and, if you don’t know who Pepe is, you may not think this book is that funny, because you don’t know the Muppets and, while knowing the Muppets isn’t a requirement, it doesn’t hurt that you would already be aware that he is a fairly recent character who is a shrimp King Prawn – much about that point in the book – and has helped usher in a newer edge to the Muppets and…where was I? Oh yeah…) is that he can be more irreverent than most other Muppet character – and that is used to great advantage. There are moments when the thoughts and humor will actually make you stop and think for a second, but it is the laugh-out-loud stuff that makes this a winner. I mean, how can you not laugh at lines like “Conjugating the Middle East: Iran, Iraq, Irate” or “The guy wearing the lamp shade is seldom the brightest bulb, okay” or “If you think you can give 110 percent, you probably shouldn’t work in accounting, okay” or “On Group Therapy: I was in group therapy once. It’s okay if you don’t mind listening to a bunch of whiners while you’re trying to hit on the hot shrink” (Did I mention the Muppets are starting to get an edge?), or “Epitaph: A Few Possibilities: What the h#%* was that all about?” Okay – I changed my mind – it’s worth the price. näyttää 2/2 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
Lothario, linguist and schemer extraordinaire, Pepe the King Prawn has carved out quite a niche for himself since he burst onto the Muppet stage in 1996. Known for his hilarious off-the-cuff remarks as well as his smoooth talking way with the ladies, Pepe is hugely popular. Here, Pepe shares his lively advice in chapters organised by all the important aspects of his life: parties, relationships, careers, love and friendship. Pepe is a prawn of today, and this, his first book, is guaranteed to make life spicy, hot and lively. Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |
