From the fall of Paris in June of 1940 to its liberation, the book endeavors to trace the arising of the French resistance, the tactics, people and clashing personalities involved in freeing France from German control. Many details that might be otherwise overlooked in a less comprehensive history. Hard to overlook the book's triumphalist tendencies, but this is primarily a military history, after all. ( ) Aside from the book-jacket review comparing "Taking Paris" with "The Splendid and the Vile" Martin Dugard's tome is a surprisingly fast read, but more like a beautifully written history than a literary masterpiece, which The Splendid and the Vile" clearly was. Nice job. A book to recommend and one to keep on the shelf as a reference. For what exactly I don't know, but still, Nice job Mr. Dugard! Four stars. I found this book to be a great addition to my knowledge of World War 2. This time, it is told through the eyes of the French. Dugard does a wonderful job of letting one see the effects of the war by telling it from the perspective of common citizens, international spies, and military leaders. A much easier, less technical read than most World War 2 books. Very good! näyttää 3/3 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
