While most ghosts are white sheets, including his mom and dad, this little ghost was a beautiful patchwork of squares. The little ghost who was a quilt was frustrated because he just wanted to be like other ghosts. He couldn't even fly as fast as them because his quilt was too heavy. However, there was one special day that made him happy every year, and that day was Halloween. And this year something special happened that made him the talk of the other ghosts. The Bottom Line: Sometimes it's difficult to be different. However, as the little ghost who was a quilt found out, sometimes being different can be a gift too. Beautiful illustrations by Byron Eggenschwiler accompany this sweet tale of self-discovery, diversity, and gratitude. Highly recommended for little ghosts everywhere. This review also appears at the Mini Book Bytes Book Review Blog. The little ghost was a quilt and everyone else was a sheet. The little ghost felt out of place and different, he just wanted to be "normal". On night he was used to keep a little girl cozy and became her blanket. The little ghost felt appreciated and seen. Tis is a great book to show on Halloween because it has themes of self acceptance, bravery, and kindness. When you think of a ghost, do you think of something that looks quite a bit like a sheet? Maybe with some eye holes? That seems to be a common depiction in children's books and cartoons. But what if a young ghost was a quilt rather than a sheet? It upends his whole little ghosty world! The other ghosts make fun of him - kind of like Rudolph with his glowing nose. And the quilt weighs more than a sheet so he's a bit slow compared to the other ghosts. His mom assures him that being a quilt it not uncommon for a ghost -- he has ancestors that were tablecloths and lace curtains! But that fact does little to comfort our small protagonist. But then -- it is Halloween! And an exciting adventure awaits our young friend - one that changes his little ghosty life. This is a perfect book to reach for when you want a not really scary book to read to the preschool crowd for Halloween! I would pair it with Stumpkin by Lucy Ruth Cummins. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
"Ghosts are supposed to be sheets, light as air and able to whirl and twirl and float and soar. But the little ghost who is a quilt can't whirl or twirl at all, and when he flies, he gets very hot. He doesn't know why he's a quilt. His parents are both sheets, and so are all of his friends. (His great-grandmother was a lace curtain, but that doesn't really help cheer him up.) He feels sad and left out when his friends are zooming around and he can't keep up. But one Halloween, everything changes. The little ghost who was a quilt has an experience that no other ghost could have, an experience that only happens because he's a quilt... and he realizes that it's OK to be different."-- Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |

I was especially enchanted with the zen appeal of delicate illustrations.
Byron Eggenschwiler excelled at conveying an atmospheric feel of both the ethereal ghosts and the trick-or-treating humans without swamping the story. ( )
