So I was asked to read this by the author, who is a very nice lady I might add so want to do justice by her and her book.

This review is not a full three stars. I've round up from 2.75 stars. I know, I hate half/three quarter star rating too but I didn't want to give it a two star rating just because it wasn't quite three.

I wanted to really like this book but I found too many things not quite right or just wrong with it that it couldn't get more from me.

Firstly, though the writing and description itself was good, the tendency to focus on the mundane details of Angelic's daily routine was mind numbing. I like routine and normalcy in novels but not to that extent. Many of the chapters consisted of her daily chores, mealtimes and then later on her pregnancy symptoms. It was too much and just detracted from the interesting element of the story, which was Trey's possible infidelity. His secret, his secret woman, his mysterious bulging bank account. The mystery was sucked out of the book by every chapter that comprised of the above mentioned, the little spats between the couples and then the lovey dovey romance. The romance was nice, the sex scenes steamy but they seemed to be separate from the rest of the story and Angelic's unhappiness in the marriage. They felt like two separate relationships.

The characters were good but not in depth enough. I never connected to the characters as much as I wanted to. Their emotions seemed numb, especially Angelic's and I found myself not really connecting with her through her struggles. I felt sorry for her but I didn't truly feel at one with the character and that was down to the lack of description of her emotions and her inner thoughts. When there was inner dialogue it delighted me and I enjoyed her feistiness that was so different from her outward attitude. Don't get me wrong, I liked the characters, especially Aunt Angel, but it needed more emotional description. It was more like going through the motions than experiencing what they were experiencing.

A minor complaint is the similarity in the names. Angel and Angelic (or Ange). It's a silly thing of mine and I know that a lot of families like to name their children after their parents, grandparents etc so I get that. It just made it a little muddling to read in the beginning. But the names are beautiful so I haven't marked it down for that.

So apart from the dragging plot that eventually picked up when Ange discovered Trey was hiding something, then dropped down again until the scene in the hotel room, it was a good read. It needed patience I found and even though it was only just over a 100 pages, I felt a lot of those pages could have been used to build tension, suspense, character development and back-story, emotions and more of Trey's anxiety about Ange finding out, of his struggle too.

The car crash scene was very sudden and shocking. It was by far my favourite moment in the book just because it was written so damn well and scared the crap out of me. It was worth reading if just for that.

After the events unfolded and Angelic told Trey she didn't want to be with him I was angry with her because despite the fact he did hide things from her, what he had been hiding was nowhere near as bad as what it could have been. What she had suspected. So it was a little difficult to digest. I'm all for characters in books making me angry and questioning their actions so that was no problem with the book at all. Just venting my anger lol. But to make things just all gooey and lovely, it does have a pretty happy ending.

Overall the writing was decent, but the plot and usage of the chapters was questionable. I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to. The characters were good but needed more layers and depth. I wish the author all the best and I hope my review justifies my rating. I don't like giving lower than four stars but sometimes I have to, because I have to be true to myself and my opinion no matter how much I like the writer. It will only help them improve. And it's just one opinion. I'm a nobody.

Good luck Lynn, and despite what I said, I'm looking forward to reviewing your other book soon.

So that is 2.75 stars out of 5 for me.
