Cute & fun story about spanking and a governess. ( )
  kwskultety | Jul 4, 2023 |
A sensual domestic discipline historical romance.

When Amanda Downy father died and her and mother and sister were forced out on the streets to look for work and a place to live Amanda fudged her resume to get a job as a governess for a widowed Colonel who was away at war. Amanda through the tragedy of losing her home and the life she knew ended up being the stronger one and wanted one day to be able to be with her mother and sister again. On the way back from a visit with her mother the carriage she is riding in has an accident. After accepting alcohol to calm her nerves while waiting for rescue she opening complains about her absent employer not realizing that he is one of the passengers trapped with her.

Imagine her surprise the next morning when she comes down to breakfast and finds out that passenger was the Colonel himself and he doesnt abide with lying so she gets her first punishment.

Colonel Charles Watson was heart broken when his wife died and he vowed never to love again as it was to painful to lose someone. He has many regrets over being away from his children for so long but tends to treat them like they were his troops under his command. Amanda who has come to care for the children has no problem standing up to him and telling him he needs to make some changes. He struggles with his feelings for the governess but has no problem exposing her bottom and spanking her but it shouldn't turn him on so.

These two fight there attraction to each other but it was a joy to watch neither of them winning that fight. ( )

So this was weird, in the sense that I feel I have been reading an anachronism.

What I liked:
-The romantic development between the colonel and miss Downy.
-The writing style.
-The spanking scenes.
-The premise (domestic discipline in an historical setting)

What I didn't like was the way the premise was developed in the novel; it's inconsistent to the point of unrealistic.

Examples:

- Given the period I find it unlikely that the colonel should give bare bottom spankings to a female member of the staff. I can imagine a female housekeeper punishing a female subordinate in this way, or the colonel hitting miss Downy's fingers with a ruler, but not bare bottom beatings and certainly not over his lap resulting in an erection. So maybe he's secretly a pervert instead of the strong principled man he is made out to be?
- Miss Downy is depicted as having been raised as a gentlewoman, so I guess she has read her bible. Yet she masturbates, dreaming of the colonel doing dark deeds with her, after one of the spankings. I guess that the devil does indeed find work for idle hands. So maybe she is a sinner, not such a nice girl after all?
- The colonel is so highly sexed that even with a fever and under the influence of laudanum he has it in him to make miss Downy orgasm using his fingers. She finds herself unable to extricate herself from this shocking ordeal. Highly improper behaviour on his part and hers as well for allowing it. So are both of them perverts then?
- Miss Downy in effect proposes to the colonel instead of the other way round. She seems to be forgetting her station, she is a woman and a governess and he is the master. Don't you just love these modern emancipated women?
- The colonel finally shows his true colours in the last pages of the book. He is obviously a disgusting pervert, not a likeable and respectable man at all. Why? Two reasons. One, he admits he got excited from all the spankings he has given miss Downy, leaving me to suspect that the 'discipline' was just an excuse. Furthermore he indicates that he intends to sodomize his now wife Amanda. As the story is set in England somewhere in the 19th century (the colonel has come back from one of the anglo-burmese wars) this act is against the law. It is certainly not something a gentleman would require of his wife, as it would degrade her. So, a disgusting pervert for sure.
Also his desire to perform this act makes me wonder what else he has learned in the military besides disciplining, or am I a pervert now as well for thinking this? Well, lucky for me this is the 21st century, not the 19th, and I don't have to go to confession any time soon.

To make a spoiler short: I was wondering why the author decided to scrap the chapter in which the colonel whips out his cellular for a pizza delivery, pronto. I'm sure his kids would have loved such a thoughtful and generous treat. ( )
