Triss, his familiar, asks him to help out two young women who come into his local bar. Things turn decidedly nasty during the encounter and Aral comes to the notice of the authorities, who needless to say, are extremely dangerous and thoroughly nasty. Someone (or thing) else is also on the lookout for the women and another group of interesting magical creations from this world-maker come into play.
The interplay between Triss and Aral is better in this book. The humour is still there.
Loved the characters. (
