I really loved reading this book and seeing school from a different perspective of a tiny little mouse and how someone so small may see school. Sometimes school seems scary for little kids and this makes you see how it could seem like such big place for a kid. ( )

There's a first time for everything. For Mouse, it's his first day of school. After finding a hiding space in a school bag, Mouse discovers all the adventures that take place in school. During his adventure, he finds blocks, a car, a drum, books, dolls, plants, paint, crayons, snacks, puzzles, hats, pots, and most importantly, friends! As Mouse goes through his adventure, he learns as well. The author provides children with fun ways to learn on each page of the book. As Mouse finds the blocks, he counts them. When Mouse finds the paint, he notices there are different colors. This book can give children a sense of relief as they get ready for their first day of school, as well as teach them simple concepts such as, counting, colors, shapes, and sounds. ( )

Genre- Fantasy, because its talking about a mouse at school which isn't really realistic and a mouse can't talk either.

Summary- This book is about a mouse that hops into a backpack and then he goes to school and finds all these things that you would find at a school and then soon he gets capture and he's everyones favorite.
Critique- I really liked that it has the environment of school and that the book shows all the fun stuff school is about. I would have this book in my classroom library. ( )

"Mouse's First Day of School" is simple picture book introducing school to very young children. It would be great to read to pre-k through kindergarten to cover basic topics like numbers, colors, and letters. My favorite things about this children's book is that it is filled with onomatopoeias. Although there aren't many words, the words like, "boom, slurp, zoom" help bring life to the pictures and give kids a better opportunity to relate to this story. ( )
