James Riley had already decided that Ellen Irving was the perfect bride for him. The only problem was his feisty wife-to-be had a reputation, a reputation of setting a man aside for the slightest of reasons. And if the guy didn't get the picture she would just hand him his balls to prove her point. Something that he had witnessed and in fact had sealed the deal for him. He needed to be subtle with this wildcat. Introducing himself as James and offering for her hand on behalf of "Mr Riley" would give him some time as they travel the three days to his home. Her father's offer of a $1000 for whoever marries his daughter was bringing out all kinds of crazy including the one who James knew was only out for himself and that the stubborn woman had the nerve to accept without her father's consent.

Ellen had had enough. Everyone was against her. Even Maggie, who had all but raised her, was now in her father's camp on the marriage push. She would finish this once and for all, accept the next offer and let her father squirm over her decision. Then she's told the choice was out of her hands and she would be going with James to marry Mr. Riley. She wanted romance, love and she wanted someone who would write poetry for her, not this man who must be butt ugly if he couldn't even show himself and sent James for her instead. Ellen couldn't help but fall for the sexy cowboy traveling with her and was dreading the end of their journey when he would hand her over to another man. She had to prove to him that she was meant for him and not the mysterious Mr. Riley.

Sexy, intimate, funny and fast paced, this quick novella is a deliciously carnal and arousing treat. Ellen and James are both strong willed and their banter and interactions while they grow to learn about each other made me wish there was more than just this yummy little morsel to entertain me.

I was looking for a quick and light read before going to sleep. In that sense, this little story was a success. In everything else - plot, characters, romance - it failed. Why is it so hard to find romance fiction that gets those quite essential bits right? ( )
