Quilting History

Although my quilting books are in New York and I am in Florida, i wanted to hear from those of you who are interested in the collections of historical quilts that have been done state by state.
There is a special book that I have of an African-American quilt exhibit from a town in Alabama called Gee's Bend. The quilts of Gee's Bend are the most amazing and beautiful geometric abstractions. They make a lot of painting exhibitions look tame.

I have a book called Quilts from the Indiana Amish by David Pottinger. He was so moved by the beauty of the quilts, that he moved to the area and opened a general store. He became friendly with the local people, and they began to sell him some of their most precious quilts for his collection.

I just got Kentucky Quilts 1800-1900 by Jonathan Holstein and John Finley . I also got a copy of The American Quilt A History of Cloth and Comfort by Roderick Kiracofe with text by Elizabeth Johnson. These are the result of serious scholarship , and very beautiful and informative. The sewing techniques and the designs are awesome.

In the world of quilting fiction, I like Fields of Gold by Marie Bostwick. It's historical, and quilting, and women's fiction all rolled into one.
