Does having Police Scotland, rather than all the deprecate forces, seem a good idea or not?

If they actually cooperated and played together nicely, it would be fine. But, you're still going to have territorial skirmishes and bad feelings when one encroaches on another's patch so communication may be compromised. Also, having the main office direct local affairs is often troublesome as they don't know the ins and outs of the local area

I think it's a good idea that can't possibly work in the beginning. The police are going to feel protective of their local area.

There is too much history between the different districts and I think each is going to feel protective of it's own. It sounds like a money saving venture to me. It could work eventually IF they learn to cooperate and work together...but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

It does sound like a good idea for financial reasons but will take time for them to not feel so territorial and cooperate with others.

I'm with Eadie, I think it makes sense in terms of economics, but will take a generation or two to get rid of all the old territorialism.

Yes I agree, this is about cultural change, and this doesn’t happen overnight. Surely this is how policing should be but will take a long time to see the required transformation.
