After reading the YA anthology Blackout by the same group of authors, I thought I'd try Whiteout.
This one takes place in Atlanta during a snowstorm. The stories in this one seem to coalesce better than the ones in Blackout; all the couples, while working out there own issues, are working towards one common goal: to help Stevie win back Sola.

I didn't really warm up to the Stevie character: they did in fact come across as a bit cold.
Maybe these stories would ring truer to a YA audience, but I just kept thinking: so much drama over such small problems! Just talk it out, people! Communicate!

Once again, I liked the LGBTQ representation and all of the allies in all generations. There is also Muslim representation, at Christmastime no less.… (lisätietoja)

I felt such empathy for our main character, Jordyn. She was starting at a new high school after being expelled from her prior school for actions that have made her pledge to be a better person, and to speak up when she sees injustice instead of standing by, afraid to draw attention to herself. She does change, as evidenced by her actions, but what will she do if people find out why she was expelled when an anonymous podcast starts spilling the secrets of the students who go to her new school?

I liked that this book was so relatable to any teen who reads it. The problems the kids faced in the book are the same ones that affect kids in real life. I thought the story was told in a realistic way, and while the pacing was a bit off at times, I enjoyed reading it.

In summary, I liked this book very much and highly recommend it.

Einfach ein unheimlich schönes Buch. Wer Blackout mochte, wird Whiteout sicher genauso lieben! Ich jedenfalls finde es eine grandiose Ergänzung/Fortsetzung. Es macht einfach Spaß, ist schön - irgendwie ein Wohlfühlbuch mit Drama, aber nicht überzogen und irgendwie auch aus dem Leben heraus. Klar, so ein paar Sachen wären im Realen vielleicht schwer umsetzbar, wenn man nicht entsprechende Connections hat - die hier aber nunmal vorhanden sind - aber generell ist es wirklich toll gemacht und lässt sich unheimlich gut lesen.

Ich könnte gar nicht sagen, welchen Charakter ich hier im Buch am liebsten mag, welche Perspektive ich am liebsten gelesen habe, denn mir haben wirklich alle sehr gut gefallen.
Meiner Meinung nach sind sie alle verschieden, aber auch alle auf ihre Art irgendwo liebenswürdig. Und auch wenn es im großen eher um die Beziehung zwischen Stevie und Sola geht, so geht es im einzelnen dann eben doch um absolut jeden dieser Menschen. Jeder bekommt genug Raum, um dessen eigene Geschichte zu entfalten und abzuschließen, selbst die Vergangenheit jedes einzelnen lernt man kennen und bekommt so selbst auch mal auf weniger Seiten so tiefe und gute Einblicke in die Figuren, dass man sie tatsächlich kennenlernt und niemand blass oder platt erscheint. Gleichzeitig geht es hier aber gar nicht mal nur um diese eine Art der Liebe, sondern auch generell um alle Beziehungen unter den Charakteren, um ihre Verbindungen zueinander, unabhängig von Liebesbeziehungen. Um Freundschaft und Familie, um Versprechen, aber auch um Verletzte Gefühle und Ängste, oder die Zukunft.

Ein ganz großes Ding. Ein Buch, das man einfach lieben muss und das zusätzlich zur schönsten Zeit des Jahres spielt. Geschrieben von gleich sechs Menschen, aber so absolut harmonisch und zueinander passend, dass man gar nicht so richtig sagen könnte, wer was geschrieben hat. Dieses Autorenteam leistet hier einfach wieder so gute Arbeit, dass ich nur staunen kann, ich hoffe hier definitiv auf noch viele solcher Projekte von diesem Team. Einfach toll!… (lisätietoja)
