Morris Wolfe

Menya was my friend and I don't know why it has taken me this long to read Morris' book. I was at some of the events mentioned in the early part of the book. The last time I saw her was while she was in her rage period.

I remember trying to be a good friend to Pete through all of this. Reading this showed me just how much more was happening than he ever let on.

I smiled when I saw mentions of our mutual friends. I relived the frustration of not being able to make things better. And now having been a caregiver myself I connect with the challenges in a way I wouldn't have if I read it when this book came out.

It was so long ago but reading this, some of it doesn't feel far away. Thank you, Morris, for preserving this for those who loved her.… (lisätietoja)

This book was a gift, and though I have no connection whatsoever with the contents--I love art, and took an art history course once, and I make art on occasion, I am no "artist" per se--I decided to honour the book with a read. My sister did attend the school in the 1980s, long after the crisis years of the title. The author taught in an ancillary role at the schoo; that is, he taught English as an auxilary staffer to the core drawing & painting, and design, instruction. The book describes with plangent illustrations and photocopies from the day the top-down approach of the master at the start the changeover to a more cooperative, educational institution. Wolfe also has written articles for Saturday Night and pieces for the Globe and Mail. His son, Ben Wolfe, designed the book and a very attractive item it is--drop or stylised "Goth" caps, red type for running headers, chapter titles and aforementioned dragon-caps, as well as gorgeous crimson endpapers and fine paper.
