I really enjoyed it. It is a fairly short novel, told in fragmentary, disjointed style (150 chapters in 135 pages) about the narrator's investigation of the disappearance of the head waiter of his favourite Indian restaurant. He spends a lot of time stuck down a well, in hospital, and musing on the precise nature of the vindaloo, the biryani and other Indian recipes. It is a real classic of surreal style, very funny in places. A very diverse collection of short stories, loosely connected by the sex and pain theme.
While some of the stories are light-hearted, most have an underlying edge to it that makes you want curl up and die. Well, not die, but, you know, curl up.

What they all share is an eye for obscure detail and poignant narrative style not dissimilar to the likes of Haruki Murakami.

All in all a collection of short stories you could easily give to people who don't usually like short stories, and they'd still love you for it.… (lisätietoja)
