First sentence: Tom and Mot were best friends. Today was Tom and Mot's birthday.

Premise/plot: Tom and Mot are cats who are best, best friends. They share a birthday. Tom gives Mot a feather. Mot gives Tom a marble. The two use their imaginations throughout the book. The presents are very abstract.

My thoughts: I hoped to enjoy this one. I think it is still enjoyable if your expectations are reasonable. It is very abstract, in my opinion. The two presents represent very abstract, yet vibrantly creative and imaginative concepts. These two know each other very well. They "speak the same love language" if you will. These are much-appreciated gift. Not just a marble. Not just a feather.

The blue penguin really wants to fit in but because he is a different color, the others don't include him.

I loved this story. A puffin gets lost and needs help getting back home and a whale tries to help Peter find his way back.

I use many Petr Horacek books in preschool story time because they are fun, unpredictable stories with large, lush illustrations- some drawn with pencil, others painted, others collaged. There are other Mouse books but not necessarily in a series. In this book, brave Mouse walks into the forest. He is not afraid of various big, scary animals…but he is afraid of the animal at the end of the book…it’s a surprise!

The page layout of this book was really entertaining and fun. I would like to read this to my nieces and nephews because it is such an interactive book. The illustrations are very warm and friendly, which adds to the overall feeling of the book.

Summary: This book is a folktale about a mouse and the moon. The mouse wants to eat the moon and eats a banana thinking that it is the moon. The mouse is very very sad that she has eaten the moon.
Opinion: This is a cute book. I like books about the moon, I don’t know why. I was hoping for a little more culture in this book but maybe that’s racist.

With gorgeous, vibrant illustrations throughout, this is a story of a goat that eats everything in sight. Of course, Goat does not feel well. Does Goat learn her lesson about being greedy? Preschoolers will love this story. It has the right formula for little kids, a great story with few words and big, beautiful pictures. I can’t wait to use it for story time.

When Goat gets tired of eating the same old herbs and grass one day, she embarks on a course of sampling, trying: the dog's food, the cat's milk, the pig's potato peelings, the farmer's wife's plant, the farmer's daughter's shoe, and the farmer's own underwear. Needless to say, after all of that, our caprine heroine isn't feeling all that well...

The Greedy Goat is my first picture-book from prolific author/illustrator Petr Horáček, an expatriate Czech artist now living in the UK. I found the story itself amusing, and suspect that young children will likewise enjoy the silly humor of goat's gustatory misadventures. The mixed media artwork is colorful and immediate, capturing the zany nature of goat's story quite well. Recommended to all young picky eaters, and to anyone looking for entertaining new picture-books featuring farmyard amimals.

What a very strange little book! The language is simple and the illustrations are enhanced with little cutouts and variations in page shape. The ending is rather violent though when the worms get their tails eaten off.

A goose reacts against the conformity of avian society. Its fantasies of fulfilling its individual potential by escaping the anonymity of the flock culminate in its near slaughter. When the goose's frankly rubbish attempt at mimicking a lion goes disastrously wrong, the gauche bird hastens back to its humdrum existence hissing around after small children in its local park.

This was sweet and efficiently executed, and managed to make those two qualities complement and not clash with each other.½

Little blue penguin was different than the other penguins, but to them it made him "not like them". He felt all alone and ostracized. But little blue penguin met a friend who really liked the way blue penguin sang, and he taught his new friend the song. Once he taught the whole group how to sang they realized he wasn't different from them, he was their friend. I think the book is talking about real world issues about race and the pressure we put on what color someone is. Just because blue penguin was a different color the others made him feel different and alone, and that is very similar to adversity some children go through today.

I also think the book is very similar to the movie "Happy Feet". But all in all, a cute book.½

My elephant was about a little boy who asked his grandpa to play with him but he was busy. He then asked his grandma to play with him and she was busy. He began to play with his big giant elephant . His grandma and grandpa both saw messes and asked the little boy what happened. He told them that it was his elephant that made the messes. His grandparents didn't believe him so the boy was sad. His elephant came to cheer him up. He goes on adventures with the elephant, to the jungle and fishing. He ends up in his bed and asks his grandpa how he got to his bed and he says "you were tired so your elephant put you to bed"

This book basically describes the characteristics of a bird through words such as hop peck flap, etc…

Teaching Ideas: act out these sight words, learn more about different types of birds and their characteristics

This is the story of a little mouse who goes to bed dreaming that she could have a small piece of the moon that shines so brightly in the sky. The next morning when she wakes up she realizes that her wish was granted (little did she know it was actually a banana). She took a closer look at her piece of the moon and saw that it smelled good, and so she ate half of it. Realizing what she had just done, the little mouse sadly walks around with the other half of her piece of the moon moping to other creatures in the forest. However, none of her friends believe she ate the moon so they take her to the top of a hill where the little mouse realizes she didn't eat the moon; in fact it is impossible to do that! This is a fantasy children's story.
