The greatest part about this book is the rhythm and rhyme of every lines draws a reader in. The whole story has a flow to it that keeps a reader focused on the words and lines of the story. The Battle of New Orleans is told from the perspective of a drummer who was there that now marches through New Orleans on January 8th. A young boy finds interests in this and his drum as he plays. From there the drummer tells his story about the battle. The plot gives historical facts all while keeping the reader interested in the book and learning something at the same time.
This book would be great to read before a history lesson to entice and excite kids about what is to come.… (lisätietoja)

The book allows the reader to see an African American perspective during the war. The Battle of New Orleans is known for the diverse groups of people who fought together in the war to protect New Orleans, the book highlights that. I would read this book to my students because it is relevant to our culture. Since we are from New Orleans, this war played a big part in our history.
