This book starts off with a class of students preparing to put on a performance and describes the various steps they go through to put on a play. It quickly veers off from that and begins sharing information about the history of the theatre as well different types of theatre around the world. The important terminology is highlighted and explained such as what is a tragedy or comedy.

Throughout the book there are many activities the reader can engage in such as breathing activities or how to make your own hand puppet. There are also "Did you know" bubbles that contain various trivia. At the end, there's a mini quiz so the child can reflect and show what they learned, which is especially helpful if you are using this book in a classroom environment.

The illustrations are very detailed and sometimes due to the amount of detail, some of the images are small and hard to see all the information contained in them.

This would be a good book to read as an introduction on a unit about theatre, acting or culture. It could also be used before a fieldtrip to the theatre or before putting on a school or class play to share information and get children excited about the prospect. A good book to have in school libraries or teacher resource areas.
