This project is a progression of historical events and information that highlights the
importance of music teacher preparation. There is an important focus on music
educator Lowell Mason (1792-1872) who established music curriculum and
instruction in the Boston public schools as part of a student’s education in 1838.
Additionally in 1834, he established the first American music convention Boston
Academy of Music to instill a high-quality music education for students and fellow
music teachers. As a result of this project, music educators should continue on the
path of being lifelong, reform-minded educators in improving their craft on a personal
and professional level. To never lose sight of the goal as educators to provide a
genuine artistic experience for our students that will make them wholesome,
