This may well be the beat horror book i have read in a long time.
The action starts straight away and doesn't let up. Maybe not one for anyone squeamish as there is a fair amount of blood and gore through out but i absolutely loved it and it will be a book i will read again.
Rafael Chandler is an author to keep an eye out for.
If you enjoy good old fashioned slasher films then this book is a million percent for you!
Highly highly recommended :-)

I've read Bram Stoker's Dracula but not Mary Shelley's Frankenstein so was interested in how this 'mash-up' would deal with the different stories.

The gender reversals on the main characters gave the narrative a new perspective and this is an easier read than the originals.

This is well worth a read whether you have read the originals or not and might even whet your appetite for the source material

If you've ever been curious about Dracula or Frankenstein but didn't feel up to reading the gothic novels then this will give you all you need to know to blag your way.… (lisätietoja)

I enjoyed this blending of two of the most classic horror stories ever written. It would be a completely different experience for readers dependent on whether they have read either or both of the source novels.

Loved the gender spin applied to the main characters and there was just enough original content to keep anyone who knows the source material interested in the plot.

A strange project to undertake but overall it really works

Bobbi Metzger is a survivor. She was the only one left alive after a slasher invaded her sixteenth birthday party butchering all of her friends and leaving Bobbi with a scars in remembrance of that horrible night. Thirty years later, Bobbi is still trying to piece her life back together. Starting over in a new city with a new job, everything seems to be going well for Bobbi, until the nightmares invade her mind again. Fearful that a slasher is going to slaughter the only people she loves, Bobbi heads back home to North Carolina to her makeshift family….Jesse, sam and Cris, who each battle their own slasher and horrors from long ago.

MASK BENEATH HER FACE really brought back a lot of childhood memories for me. I remember watching all of the slasher films when I was a young teen and being completely horrified and yet staying up late at night glued to the tv screen watching all the movies like Friday the 13th and Halloween. So, it comes as no surprise that when I read the summary for this book, I knew I had to read it. I am happy to say it lived up to all of my expectations, gory details and all. The story starts off with a bang. You are drawn right into the horrific scene of Bobbi’s friends, or what was left of them I should say, all dead at the hands of a slasher, and Bobbi fighting for her life to make it out alive. My attention never waivered right from that opening scene. The plot slowly builds as you learn about Bobbi, Jesse, Sam, and Cris’ past history with slashers. I loved the ancient history that was sprinkled in and I felt it gave the story an eerie feel.

Rafael Chandler brought me back to my teen years and reminded me why I loved slasher films so much. He held nothing back and even took it a step further by introducing multiple slashers into the story. Wait, did I really say multiple slashers, you ask? Yes! I was completely floored and heavily invested in each of the slashers each wielding their own brand of terror. This book is not for the faint of heart. There is blood, gore, and a whole lot of chopped off body pieces. What I also like most is there is a story line. We really get to know each of the characters and learn about their fears and why they have become what they are which makes them relatable to perhaps our own fears (like someone looking through my window at night in the dark, UGH!). I also love the cover art with the spider and how it relates to the story because the spider in the story is no Charlotte’s Web!

I highly recommend picking up a copy, just don’t read it in the dark or when you are alone! Scratch that…..read it when it is dark and you are alone (insert evil laugh here).
