The island-man helps the woman get rid of her abusive suitor. The woman is 'cured' of her atheism, he returns to civilization to find he is a Virginian 'blue blood.' Entertaining if a bit moralizing. Really, truly, one of the most awful pieces of fiction ever sandwiched between pasteboards. Deserves a star only because the plot manages to parallel Conrad's Victory nearly turn for turn while predating it a full five years.
