Four Stars might be a little generous....but it was good and it really felt like reading a real Harry Potter book. I can't wait to move on to books two and three.

This book was more or less what I expected; tbh it felt very much like an early Harry Potter, with a few different names here and there, and written 20 years later, so it's a bit more snazzy.

I liked the plot and most of the characters, the writing was good enough to have me see and feel what was happening, and not get pulled out of the story by being too demonstratively present. That's a fine line!

I did get annoyed by Harry, I mean James, being a secretive little shit, keeping important stuff from anyone who could actually have done anything, despite repeated prompting by friends and advisors.

Usually a plot that revolves around people not communicating strikes me as lazy, but in this case it was very much in character. I was annoyed by James, not by the author. Very nicely done. I might pick up the next one in the series after a little break. ( )

This is a very good book, evoking the nostalgia of Hogwards, Harry Potter, and the magical world. Though the plot was not as gripping as the Harry Potter series, this book was an engrossing read. Eager to read the rest of the series. ( )

I liked this book way more than I had thought - it's easy to confuse with the cursed child but it actually happens before the cursed child takes place as 1) this was written before that and 2) this is about James potter - harry's first son - and the cursed child is about Albus - harry's second son.

You forget that it's not really by JKR at times and other times there are things that happen that I'm not so sure she would have included. The author explains a lot of things that JKR just didn't address - such as technology or how dissapparation works - which I'm not sure I enjoyed that much. The part w here Ben Franklin is a wizard was interesting...

I started to read the book in eBook version but then shortly switched to the audiobook. The narrator did a good job of different voices which is a nice change of pace from what I have been reading - very high production value compared to some older audiobooks.

I'll read the second book for sure, it's just a matter of when. ( )

Very well written. Loved the continuation of the Potter world. Looking forward to the other books. ( )
