Each of the stories is fast paced, intriguing, and involves some form of paranormal activity or communication. The paranormal parts are woven seamlessly into the stories and feel very natural. There is much good vs evil here, but in a refreshing, not preachy, way. There is even a bit of romance. I also enjoyed reading each of the Irish sayings/quotes at the beginning of the chapters and learning a bit about Irish history and lore. I have Irish roots, but don't know much about the history of the country so this made reading the book more fun for me. I recommend this book--it's well-written, with compelling plotlines that kept me reading into the night to see what would happen, and the characters are likable and well-drawn. Even though this was a book about ghosts and hauntings, the word that comes to mind to describe the overall feeling I got while reading it is heartwarming. The Irish are famous for knowing how to tell a good tale and this book is no exception. In fact, in this book, I was pleasantly surprised to get not one, but four intertwined tales to relish and enjoy. Reading this was akin to sitting down with a nice cup of tea and a scone and having a long chat with a warm and friendly group of friends and family. I definitely looked forward to each moment spent immersed in this world and hope to rejoin them again someday soon. Tämä arvostelu kirjoitettiin LibraryThingin Varhaisia arvostelijoita varten. First time reading anything by this author and loved the book. The stories flowed very easily and gave good details on what was going on. Enjoyed getting to know the characters and learning some of the Irish Slang. This was a Library thing give away näyttää 4/4
We Are Shadows is a thrilling read divided into four interconnected parts. The events unfold in Ireland, and Gail Grant Park offers us interesting insights into the dark periods of the history of Ireland, like the Great Famine and the social injustice that followed it. The binding elements of the book's four parts are kindness and compassion. Moira is always ready to help those who reach out to her, be it her next-door neighbor or a ghost from the other side of the veil. Gail touches on the importance of family connections; Nana Brigid may be dead, but she watches over her granddaughters constantly. We Are Shadows has an appealing writing style and a captivating plotline with many unpredictable twists." — Nino Lobiladze for Readers' Favorite Palkinnot
Moira Gallagher's ability to talk with the dead gives her fledgling detective agency, Gallagher Investigations, an edge in uncovering secrets once buried in the past, and righting wrongs done to those on the other side of the veil. Together with her sisters, Deirdre and Nuala, they assist those unsettled spirits to find peace and move on with their journey, as well as provide closure for their loved ones left behind. Three sisters, supernatural talents, family issues, ghostly issues and a small detective agency set the backdrop for this wonderful story. The interaction between the sisters as well as their clients is so well delivered that you feel like you've known them all along. No matter what kind of problem these ghosts have that is keeping them earthbound, these feisty sisters will find a way to help them get released. I chuckled more than once and find myself eagerly awaiting the next installment of the girls and their adventures. ( )
