This was closer to a 2.5 star for me. I really like Denise Mina’s writing but I just never connected with the story or the characters. I will not be reading book 2. ( )
A mystery that certainly doesn’t follow any of the standard formulas. It started off a little slow, but it picked up steam and had me totally engaged by the end. The sometimes unlikeable, sometimes annoying first-person narrator and her companion, the anorexic husband of the woman her husband’s just left her for, become the unlikeliest of crime solvers, at the instigation of a true-crime podcast that opens a can of worms from our narrator’s dark past.
