A jumble of shoes in a girl's closet all hope to be chosen for "Daddy-and-me" day...but, bafflingly, the girl chooses one flip-flop and one boot! The left-behind flip-flop and boot go off in pursuit, hoping to remedy the apparent mistake before Daddy arrives...but when he does, he's wearing mis-matched shoes also! Collier is equally adept at expressive cartoon shoes and the Black dad and daughter (and there's even a secret Pigeon, p. 50-51). ( ) I really like how the character in this book is Black/African American in an everyday setting. Too often we expect to see white characters in books like these. I bought copies for several elementary school libraries to help diversify their collections and reinforce the message kids of color do not need to be seen only in books about civil rights, holidays, sports, etc. A young girl gets ready to spend the day and must pick out her shoes. The shoes vie for attention and are shocked when the girl chooses a right shoe and a left shoe from two different pairs. This is a very humorous book, full of puns, and featuring an intro and outro from Mo Willems' incredibly popular Elephant and Piggie characters. (Savvy readers/listeners will also spot the Pigeon's cameo.) It has a lovely message about individualism that isn't didactic at all. Furthermore, the book features an African-American girl as the nominal protagonist, and it appears that her father does not live with her, reflecting a common reality for many families (although not as often seen in children's literature). The illustrations are a little goofy, but they are fitting with the tone of the books. I can see this being a big hit for young children. Wonderful use of the end pages. By using the popular characters Elephant & Piggie, it gets the kids excited for the story before it even starts. With colorful speech bubbles, the reading gets visual clues as to who is talking. Full of puns and humor, this story will keep kids laughing. I really loved the fact the illustrations show diversity without it being key to the story. näyttää 5/5 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu

If you choose to wear unmatched shoes, can they still be a pair? Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |
