The description for this book begins "Have you ever wondered what would happen to a werewolf in the vampire/zombie apocalypse?" I read that and I thought, "No, I have not. And I should have." Native American werewolf and vampire hunter Layne Yow finds herself caught in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and forced to team up with a reclusive werewolf and some vampires in order to survive. She finds herself questioning all she's been taught about vampires and the war between them and werewolves and doesn't like what she learns. The zombie apocalypse is tied to a larger and more dangerous plot and Layne is going to have to question her loyalties quite a few more times before she's finished. The book seemed very rushed, with Layne hurrying from action scene to action scene. It also seemed to have random "typical zombie apocalypse" scenes running through it that don't seem to tie in to the plot. They're fun, but not necessary. I could wish for more character development--and more women--in this book. (Provided by publisher) The book had some semi funny bits but then ruined them with ridiculous dialog, stupid rambling nowhere plot line and so many abrupt character mood shifts I was left shaking my head. The story had vampires, werewolves, zombies, hybrids, humans, evil government agency, religious zealots, TSTL women, demon dogs, back stabbing, sexual desire, survivalists, and even some red necks. There was just too much going on with to little behind each moment. It was like being in a tornado, having all these fast things thrown at you and you have to hit them away then Bam another different one comes at you and..... it just kept going, rambling on unfocused on any one factor for more than few pages.I tried to like it, I really wanted this to be good. I read through the night waiting for the story to filter down to a few main points. I wasted my time. The book ended as it started in chaos with a abrupt ending that left me relieved to have it over with absolutely no interest in continuing to the next book. Sadly I just didn't get the book. näyttää 3/3 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
Borderlands contains fiction that resides out there on the edge, on the perimeter of what's being done in the field of horror, dark fantasy, and suspense literature. Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |

I enjoyed most of the stories but the ones that stood out as favorites for me were-
The Grass of Remembrance" by John DeChancie about a man who sends away for a very unique grass seed after his failed attempts to keep his lawn alive. "The Pounding Room" by Bentley Little in which starting a great new job isn't all its cracked up to be, "The Raw and the Cooked" by Michael Green was a dark and satirical look at how the makers of your happy meal stay so happy. "The Man in the Long Black Sedan" by Ed Gorman involves a family man who takes a day off work to protect his family.
I think all horror lovers will find something to enjoy in this volume. Borderlands is a symphony of dark and disturbing fiction and I hope there will be future installments.
