The Coincidence of Coconut Cake is the story of Lou and Al, of chef and food critic. Lou runs a French restaurant, Luella’s, and is struggling to keep it afloat. Her life is supposed to be on track with a well-to-do fiancé, but when she walks in to find a half-naked intern in his apartment, the day goes south, fast.
And on this horrible, very bad day, Al, infamously mean food critic, walks into Luella’s and experiences the worst of the worst. Lou is distracted and upset, the staff is concerned, and the food is not up to par… Al notes it all, and promptly delivers a scathing review.
Shortly after, Lou finds herself drowning her sorrows, while Al hits the same bar to celebrate his latest write-up, and as fates collide, the two make plans to see each other again. Lou promises to show Al the best Milwaukee has to offer. Just one catch… no work talk.
The story unravels deliciously, as these two people, each dealing with their own troubles, find an unlikely connection with each other. A friendship takes flight, as flutters for something more stir within for them both. With every place Lou takes Al, he’s falls a little more for the city, and a little more for the girl. And Al makes Lou realize that what she is starting to have with him, is the right kind of something, and just what she needs as her life is heavy with sadness at her restaurant’s demise… particularly after that bad review.
What unfolds is a story full of heart, sweetness, wit and charm. Al’s surly demeanor begins to lift with Lou’s passion and effervescence. But once Al realizes Lou is the very same chef whose restaurant he berated, everything hangs in the balance when he’s certain this secret could shatter everything he now can’t imagine losing. ( )

Well...I started it this morning and finished it just now so that's gotta tell you something! A light, fun romance with shades of "You've Got Mail." Very enjoyable. ( )

Lou éjt nappallá téve dolgozik, hogy fenntartsa szívének kedves kis francia éttermét, a Luellát. Lelkesen egyensúlyoz szeretett hivatása és követelőző vőlegénye között, míg egy reggel rajta nem kapja a férfit egy másik nővel.
Al, a szellemes, ám mogorva brit azzal keresi a kenyerét, hogy álnéven könyörtelen kritikákat ír a milwaukeei éttermekről a helyi újságba. Amikor felkeresi Luellát, nem tudja, hogy a séf életének legrosszabb napját fogta ki, és szabadjára engedi legvitriolosabb énjét.
Miután a lesújtó cikk megjelenik, e két idegen útjai egy kocsmában keresztezik egymást: Lou italba fojtja bánatát, Al pedig ünnepel. Szóba elegyednek, és a férfi ráveszi a nőt, hogy fedezzék fel együtt a város kulináris nevezetességeit. Valami elkezdődik, valami közös... De vajon ha fény derül az igazságra, Lou az ígéretes jövő érdekében képes lesz-e elnézni a múltban történteket?

No sé si alguna vez lo comenté, pero tengo una obsesión con la repostería. No puedo ni siquiera prender el horno, aun así eso no me priva de ver programa de repostería que encuentre (Cake Boss en H&H es uno de mis favoritos ¡Todas las cosas que hacen!). Sé que algún día me armaré de valor y empezaré a hacer galletas. Algún día…

The Coincidence of Coconut Cake me gustó un montón desde el inicio porque aparte de la comida, tiene otra cosa que particularmente me interesó. Y es que como dice en la sinopsis, Al, es reseñador, pero no en blogs como yo (go me!) sino en un periódico, es un columnista. ¿Por qué me emocionó tanto? Porque eso es lo que quiero, una de las razones por las que me niegue tanto a empezar con videos es porque lo mío son las letras, escribir lo que pienso. Al, al igual que yo (go me!), escribe con un sobrenombre (aunque el de él es más creativo que el mío ¬¬), y me gustó ver como su manera de escribir progresa durante el libro, ya que al principio no tiene mucho encanto, considerando que se recalca en el libro que cada vez es más conocido, sé que cada quién tiene su manera de escribir, es solo que al inicio parecía que Al solo nombraba cosas como un robot, y al avanzar la historia notas mucho el cambio. Se centra más en las sensaciones que el producto o el entorno, y eso es lo que yo valoro en una reseña, que si bien es una opinión no significa que no pueda transmitirte emociones también.

That is the way, not something to mourn. Only mourn those who haven’t lived, who haven’t found love. They deserve your sadness, not us.”

También me encantó la personalidad de Lou, se permite llorar un día y levantarse al otro. Me gusta como a pesar de que puede muchas veces caer en lo fácil, sigue con su plan original. Me gusta cuando habla del control, de que el que te hayan lastimado no significa que te hayan destruido. Y que las segundas oportunidades no siempre significan equivocarte dos veces.

The Coincidence of Coconut sí, tiene algunas cosas que criticar, algunas cosas son demasiado obvias para dejarlas pasar, aun así ha sido una lectura que me encantó desde el inicio hasta al final. Es una de esas pocas veces que un libro me hizo soltar una lágrima por la razón correcta y no necesariamente con los protagonistas.
