This isn't a single book, as every book in the Stellar Guild series, this book has a novel by one author (Mercedes Lackey) and a novella by another author (Martin Cody).

The two of them met and had the idea of undead in space a long time ago, so when offered this opportunity they jumped for it.

Martin Cody's novella is brilliant, it's about a disfunctional ship crew of paranormals going through space, trying to serve a humanity they last saw years ago in a sublight ship. It's witty, hilarious and has a nice rythm.

It's so good, that at first, when finishing it and starting Mercedes Lackey novel, I had a hard time tryingt to get into it. I let it rest a couple days and then i restarted and it's a great novel also, but completely different. It's now a noir interstellar detective novel, with paranormal detective and lots of paranormals all around, as well as normals.

Where Martin's novella threw you into this ship, establishes an status quo and then breaks it, Mercedes novel starts slower, and the detective has a lot of baggage already attached, as beffitting of noir genre.

But once you start getting serioulsy into Mercedes Lackey novel, it shines. It has the gritty attention to detail of noir, but seemengly in the correct wrong places, because this is a science fiction story. It has paranormals alone, in societies, with different behaviours.

This book is a must read.
