This is a helpful introduction to the causes of/treatment options for migraines for someone (like me) who has recently started to experience them. I find it particularly useful in that it breaks down the types of migraines that may be experienced and discusses their attributes and causes. Many other sources assume that everyone experiences migraines in the smart way and for the same reasons. ( )

The ironic thing is that, about the time I received this book, I stopped having migraines. My family of origin all has migraines, and I fully expected to have them the rest of my life. But through the miracle of topiramate, I have not had a full migraine in a year. Still, I found this book thorough and helpful (although the illustrations and art throughout are mismatched and generally awful.) I liked the inclusion of brand names for medications along with the generic names, a thorough discussion of non-pharmaceutical treatments, tips, questions to ask your doctor, instructions for keeping a headache diary, information about migraines during pregnancy and breast-feeding, and the nitty-gritty about hormones and migraine. I liked especially the part and the very beginning that explained that migraine is more than just a headache. I also liked the discussion of migraine throughout the life cycle, from child to post-menopause. It's wonderful to have a book that discusses *women* and migraine, one that doesn't just lump women in with men (we're different.) I'd recommend (and have!) this book to any woman who suffers with migraine. Hopefully with the next edition, they'll opt for new artwork. Overall, good job. ( )

I requested this book from LibraryThing Early Reviewers because I have suffered from debilitating migraines since I was 13 years old. I found it useful but the illustrations and artwork totally put me off. I felt they looked very unprofessional and to be honest had me stop reading the book for almost a month or so. It wasn't until I read the rest of the Early Reviewer reviews that I got myself to finish reading it. I hope they change the illustrations and art work before they decide to sell the book. In the meanwhile I'll keep it around but not sure if I would gift it to someone at this point. ( )

The book is a great resource for those people that suffer from migraine headache. It is very easy to read without overwhelming the reader with medical jargon. When it uses medical terminology it is well defined. The various log sheets and checklist that are included in the book can be very valuable to the migraine sufferer as they try to find patterns or triggers. The section on how to talk to your physician also should help many to get the most out of their doctor visits. While the book does not claim to have a cure for migraines it does make suggestions on how to learn to live productively with them. It is a book that can be valuable for people at various stages in their lives. While I read in detail the suggestions of dealing with headaches and menopause, I was able to simply skim through the parts on headaches and pregnancy. I plan to share this book with my daughter who is a migraine sufferer and hope she finds some helpful tools in it. The title could not be better chosen for the book because it is not a book full of cures but instead supplies you with the tools to handle your migraines better. ( )

A good introduction to migraines and their causes along with practical advice for living with them. This would be a great resource for someone just starting to live with migraines, but it also offers information that may be useful for those who have had migraines for years. The book is an easy read, well laid out, with sections that can be skipped if not applicable. ( )
