A PICTORIAL REVIEW

No. 10 of 1520
Signed by illustrator Zhenya Gay and printer B. H. Newgate.
12 b&w lithographs drawn on stone by Zhenya Gay.
Introduction by William Bolitho.
Black quarter cloth with marbled boards and title embossed in gold on spine.
Spine title runs bottom to top.
Deckled fore and lower page edges.
Gilded top page edges.
Plain white endpapers.
Decorative stamp of illustrator Edward A. Wilson to front endpaper.
Light brown pattern printed slipcase with black spine.
77 pages
36x26.5 cm.
US$100

My copy is in remarkably good condition for a book that is nearly 100 years old with a tight binding and unfoxed paper. The slipcase is slightly battered though.

What a beautiful book! The bite of the letterpress is impressive, it looks like you could feel every letter of the title page from the back side. The marbled paper is very impressive, as is the type layout. Especially page 30!

Wonderful every which way you look at this book! Over the years I have bought three copies of this and still own two of them. The prose is marvellous too!

>1 wcarter: Any clues on the Edward Wilson stamp?

Only that I assume this was his copy and he used the stamp as a bookplate.

One of the very finest of the George Macy LECs, at all levels. Zhenya Gay's illustrations are amongst the mot successful of LECs and add immensely to the text.
