-Main characters are three siblings, two brothers one sister ratio (orphans)
-MC has contact with an older male who's an inventor (or magician, but I'm leaning toward inventor)
-Inventor gives them 3 hats that can transport them places or create illusions
-There's a lion or large cat that's allied (or believed to be so) with the villain
I encountered this book in grade school in the later '90s, and I can remember very little from it at all. What I remember most is one "scene" where the girl wants to go to some house and is cautioned against trusting the cat and she puts on the hat, and the flowers on her curtains begin to blow in the wind and the cat is there (or she's been brought to the cat)
