Best book and book collector videos

After browsing many, many videos on You tube, I have come to the conclusion that watching most is a waste of time. Most book sellers make videos as self promotion, and you won't learn anything from them. there was one book seller who has made about 17 videos who stands out. His videos are informative and he doesn't try to sell his books to you. His name is Phillip Pirages and his location is in Oregon. You will learn much about books, including antique books, French bindings, cosway bindings, and many others. If anyone else knows about a video which is informative without promoting his books for sale, list them here. Even some of the biggest book sellers such as Bauman Fine Books are little more than an ad for their store(s).

Sorry, but these hold no interest for me. I am talking about videos made by bookmen on books they have in their collection or they have sold. Unexplained manuscripts are probably of interest to students.

There are nice videos on various topics including binding issues and first editions at Peter Harrington Books. Here is the one about Lord Byron's personal copy of Frankenstein: http://www.peterharrington.co.uk/video/lord-byrons-first-edition-presentation-co...

I have corresponded Peter Harrington on several occasions and found him to be a gentleman and responsive to my questions. However, British booksellers and binders, for whatever reason, are much more expensive than US sellers and binders. I find it is impossible for me to justify the pricing of Peter Harrington or Bayntun.

>1 leccol: Even some of the biggest book sellers such as Bauman Fine Books...

Looking for a place to post the link to this video and this almost 1110-year old thread seemed the most appropriate. Enjoy the few heart stopping moments in this instructional(?) video :)

These are not the exact type of video that was discussed in this thread but the ABAA has an interview series with many of their members, conducted over the last 15 years or so. https://www.youtube.com/@ABAA49/playlists.

I've listened to most of these. Philip Pirages, Peter Howard, William Reese, John Windle, and Mark Hime are some of the more interesting ones. For fine/private press specialists the Bromers and one of their employees have an interview, Robert Fleck, Charles Agvent, Veatchs Art of the Books, and William R. Stewart from Vamp and Tramp have interviews.

>8 mr.philistine: I would not have recognized Rebecca Romney in this video (her hair color and style have changed). I sat at same table as she at the Jan.2023 Baker Street Irregulars Dinner. I had seen the video where she threatened (nicely) to eviscerate the host if he cut out the illustrations in Lysistrata by Picasso.
I never really got to talk to her because she was seated next to Otto Penzler, owner of The Mysterious Bookshop in Manhattan and publisher of classic reprints of early detection. Maybe next year.

>9 PBB: You are right about the 'type of video'. I did not want to start a new thread and believe you me, I searched the FSD, FPF and GMD forums before deciding to drop my findings (no less than a bird!) on this thread. :)

>10 laotzu225: Wow, you move in lofty circles! The closest I could hope to get without setting off alarm bells is through YouTube videos.
Rebecca seems to be the preferred consultant for Pawn Stars. Here is more of her: https://www.youtube.com/@PawnStars/search?query=books

Slightly off topic “The last punchcutter” is not a video about book collecting but about the craftsmanship that goes into the production of moveable type.

>11 mr.philistine: Thanks for the link! If I ever do get to talk to her, perhaps next January, I'll let her know she has a fan or two.
