About My Library
I've rated virtually all 5 star because that's the reason I put them here.
About Me
I began writing in 1976. I had nothing accepted for publication until 1990, though some editors made encouraging remarks along the way. My first short story appeared in a Northern Arts magazine edited by David Almond. The second was put into a hardback anthology published by Constable for London Magazine (ed Alan Ross). This story was reviewed favourably in the TLS by Booker nominee Shena Mackay. At last, things were looking up. But of course they weren't, and it was time to move on. I left England in 1992 to take up the post of Head of English at King George V School, Hong Kong - a wonderful school, by the bye. I stayed there for 13 years, writing my novels at night, weekends and on holidays in Asian resorts, until I had enough money to quit full-time work and settle in Spain. Same old story. Since then I've brought three books up to publishable quality (in my disinterested opinion), the first of which is The Ghost of Neil Diamond. www.bookmunch.co.uk liked this book so much they interviewed me about it. Here are some quotes from their 800 word review in January 2009: "It's a special find, a story with a uniqueness" "We have a real corker of a tale on our hands" "A thoroughly enjoyable and idiosyncratic read that holds your attention until the rather brilliant end". Then in March www.harmlessfraud.com picked up the title via Twitter and I sent Shane Barry a copy to review. His review is on www.harmlessfraud.com date 23rd March. "This is a work of unexpected substance" "... a dark comedy stemming from the howling despair of a man who is out of his element in every way." "This is a book that subtly plays with the tropes associated with its subject matter to raise some interesting questions about what represents the real, and what constitutes the fake". Full text of both reviews and the bookmuch interview are on my site: www.whattradition.net.
