J. Burke Wilkinson (1913–2000)

Wilkerson is here compiling select excerpts from true accounts of various espionage cases, a few from WWI but most from WWII and the Cold War. Wilkerson himself participated in wartime espionage and has an eye both for the significant example, and the narrative that is as much literary as it is concerned with relating the facts.

I dipped into this while reading a fictional account of WWII espionage (Furst's The World At Night) and a daring WWII prison camp rescue (Ghost Soldiers), and if anything, Wilkerson's selections are at times more incredible than Furst's fictional account. Based on this re-reading, I will seek out his companion volume, Cry Sabotage!, as well as Furst's edited volume of literary excerpts.… (lisätietoja)
