The Fall of the Dynasties: The Collapse of the Old… Tekijä: Edmond Taylor

Probably the best book I've ever read about World War I (and I've read plenty) and all of the incidents leading up to it. Thorough, well-written, entertaining, and most of all, the realization that there was SO much more leading up to it than just one assassination. Every country involved did something stupid along the way to make those things coalesce into a deadly and useless war. Highly recommended.

The Fossil Monarchies: The Collapse of the Old Order… Tekijä: Edmond Taylor

I was a bit put-off by the author's penchant for snappy write-offs of each character. But he does convey the chaos of chance and incompetence that consistently moved Europe in the worst possible direction. Very much written with the benefit of hindsight. Now superceded by Christopher Clark's Sleepwalkers.

1287. Awakening from History, by Edmond Taylor (2 Sept 1974) I had read this author's The Fall of the Dynasties on June 14, 1964. This book muses about his life: born in St. Louis in 1908, he went to Paris in 1928 and became a correspondent for the Chicago Tribune in 1930. He became anti-Fascist, pro-Loyalist Spain, did not get sacked by Col. McCormick till 1939. Some of this was interesting, but not much of the account after World War II. It had its moments, but so much of it was spent philosophizing that I got tired of it. Nor did I appreciate his morality, of which a few hints were given.
