This is a collection of stories with a introduction providing a basic cultural background, but it uses past tense to describe the people, and uses the word artefact a great deal. The Tlingit elders are describes as unwilling to assist, due to past bad experiences with negative and inaccurate portrayals of their culture. The original Tlingit storyteller is identified for each story, but the editors are working at some remove from the original, relying on English translations.
