Brief Delights

“The Innocence of Others” is a book of short stories about murder, reflection, disease, anger, guilt, and relationships. Each story will keep you reeled in to discover what the next story details.
I really enjoyed Inda Lauryn’s book. She drew me into the emotions of each of her characters and inspired my knowledge with a medical condition that I hadn’t known existed. Thank you, Inda Lauryn, for keeping my wits about me.

I enjoyed some of Inda’s stories so much so that I would love to see a couple of them as separate novels such as ‘Face Blind’ – the story of a woman who after a car accident losses the ability to recognize faces – and ‘In Vacuro’ – the story of a serial killer and a woman who has ESP working with the FBI to assist with catching him. Both of these stories would be interesting to read more developed and as standalone novels.

However, what I didn’t like about “The Innocence of Others” was the quick short stories towards the end of the book. I found myself getting frustrated and wanting the book to end. For me they were too short and a waste of time, but for others they could be brief moments of relaxation or moments when a quick story would suffice. I like to sit, get cozy, and get to know my characters a little bit while reading. Two to ten page short stories is not enough to hold my attention. I also thought the font size was a bit small, thus making it difficult to read.
My hat goes off to Inda Lauryn; each story had its own unique twist and ended successfully without loose ends.

Ghost of The Past

"In Time" is the story of Amrita Lloyd who leaves San Francisco for a new life in Michigan. She finds a job as a receptionist in a legal aid office. While walking one night, Amrita thinks her mind is playing tricks on her when she passes an alley and thinks she sees someone from her past - Malik, Ingrid's brother. Not wanting him to catch up with her, she takes off running and runs into Kevin Patel, spilling a cup of coffee on him. He convinces her into letting him give her a ride home.

Amrita is haunted by the voice in her head, Ingrid, a woman from her past. Will Amrita be able to keep up the charade? Will her story fall apart? Will she lose the friends that she has acquired and the man who is capturing her heart? What about Ingrid? Why is she haunting Amrita?

Inda Lauryn's "In Time" is a page turner. It's a very good story and I highly recommend it. The only issue I had with this book was the print size. It was very small, which made the book a little hard to read and tiring on the eyes. This also made for a longer read time.

Tangled Up In Blue

Kyndyl Freeman has been a marshall for the last eight years. Single, she's adopted her partner Clark family as her own, as well as her boss Tommy as her dad. Kyndyl enjoys her job of bringing fugitives into justice who hope to cross into Canada to escape conviction.

Kyndyl is leading a routine prisoner transfer and finds herself caught in the middle of a growing mess. Slowly Kyndyl starts putting the pieces together. What she doesn't know is that she's a big part of this case and the exposure can possibly ruin her life. Is she prepared to deal with the fall out?

ONE LAST DANCE, LITTLE SISTER? is surprisingly a good read. You get the mystery, background story and the plot. At first, I worried how the cover and title tied into the story, but after reading, I totally get it. I am a mystery fanatic. Up watching CSI, Law & Order, Criminal Minds, Matlock, Perry Mason and Murder She Wrote trying to figure out the who and the why. I enjoy seeing how the story and characters lead you to the clues and you find yourself wrapped up in the mystery.

ONE LAST DANCE, LITTLE SISTER? by Inda Lauryn is slow in some places, a tinge confusing, with a print that is much too small. I did find myself enjoying the musical selections, as well as the climax. I do still have some unanswered questions, so I'm hoping to revisit Kyndyl Freeman.
