“The Innocence of Others” is a book of short stories about murder, reflection, disease, anger, guilt, and relationships. Each story will keep you reeled in to discover what the next story details.
I really enjoyed Inda Lauryn’s book. She drew me into the emotions of each of her characters and inspired my knowledge with a medical condition that I hadn’t known existed. Thank you, Inda Lauryn, for keeping my wits about me.
I enjoyed some of Inda’s stories so much so that I would love to see a couple of them as separate novels such as ‘Face Blind’ – the story of a woman who after a car accident losses the ability to recognize faces – and ‘In Vacuro’ – the story of a serial killer and a woman who has ESP working with the FBI to assist with catching him. Both of these stories would be interesting to read more developed and as standalone novels.
However, what I didn’t like about “The Innocence of Others” was the quick short stories towards the end of the book. I found myself getting frustrated and wanting the book to end. For me they were too short and a waste of time, but for others they could be brief moments of relaxation or moments when a quick story would suffice. I like to sit, get cozy, and get to know my characters a little bit while reading. Two to ten page short stories is not enough to hold my attention. I also thought the font size was a bit small, thus making it difficult to read.
My hat goes off to Inda Lauryn; each story had its own unique twist and ended successfully without loose ends.
