Amazon bargain purchase.

Cute but simple with alternating chapters between adults and their teenaged kids all mixed up in different permutations of a whirlwind European romance. There's a silly political subplot but mostly it's just a lighthearted romance with a view of the inner monologue and insecurities of all the people involved.

Read in one sitting. Didn't require a lot of concentration. Probably great to read on a flight or by the pool.

Born in 1872, Ella Kate was born at a normal size, but soon she began to grow rapidly. In school and in society she was perceived as a freak. At seventeen she was eight feet tall. She agreed to be display when she was eighteen, and for an entire month she remained rigid on the stage where people could gawk at here. But, she made $1,000, which was an incredible amount of money in 1890.

As she grew, both in age and size, she was featured in museum and it was at the age of 22 that she stopped growing. Then she was eight fet, for inches tall, and as the book reports, she wore size 24 shoes. She shared her money with her family. and also built a house with tall rooms and long, high windows. Custom built furniture was built as well.

This is a story of someone who was a giant in stature, and also in spirit. She remembered that her mother told her not to be ashamed, rather she should stand tall.

Full Disclosure: I have not (yet) read the first book in the Klises' Three-Ring Rascals series, and I read book #3 before reading this, book #2.

I actually preferred book #3, [b:The Circus Goes to Sea|20312463|The Circus Goes to Sea|Kate Klise|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1394404928s/20312463.jpg|28147222], to The Greatest Star on Earth. I'm not exactly sure why I prefer book #3 -- neither book is very realistic or accurate to circus life. But the plot of The Circus Goes to Sea, in which the circus embarks on a cruise and performs on-board, is more entertaining than the plot of The Greatest Star on Earth, in which Sir Sidney develops a physical worrywart on his nose and the circus members compete against each other to win a trophy.

However, the illustrations are adorable, and, although the plots may be a bit eye-roll inducing for grown-ups, they're sure to make kids laugh.

Note: I received a digital copy of this book through NetGalley.

I've been wanting to try the Klises' "Three-Ring Rascals" series for some time, and I'm glad I finally did with this third installment.

The circus performers' hijinks on the high-seas, from an elephant doing cannonballs off a diving board to spaghetti as a tightrope, will definitely leave kids giggling. I'm looking forward to reading the other books in the series.

Right in all the feels.

This book would be good to help prepare children for a loss. It deals with aging (especially the faster aging of dogs) and the fact that dogs/people slow down and are less able to do certain things as they get older. It does not deal with death itself or the aftermath, although many readers will know that's coming.

I love this whole series of books told through written pieces of mail, memos, etc. I love these books, and they're good for everyone to read.

Consider the facts:
Appleton Elementary School has a new librarian named Rita B. Danjerous. (Say it fast.)
Principal Noah Memree barely remembers hiring her.
Ten-year-old Reid Durr is staying up way too late reading a book from Ms. Danjerous's controversial "green dot" collection.
The new school board president has mandated a student dress code that includes white gloves and bow ties available only at her shop.

I completely lack impartiality when it comes to books by this duo. I grew up reading their books and when I found out there was a new one out, I was so excited to read it. These stories may be simple but I just love the way Kate and M. Sarah tell a story. This was everything I wanted from this new book and I will continue to read anything they put out.

I loved this book as a child and I still think it's just brilliant. It is full of atrocious puns and crazy plot lines and I just love it. I think this book is out of print but if you can get your hands on it for you or your children I highly recommend it!

Number 4 in this lovely series of books. The kids are in summer school and get summer jobs, 2 criminals break out of jail, Florence is in Bath, the principle is planning to host 300 other principles and the bathrooms downstairs in the school need to be renovated. This one doesn't quite get me as much as some of the other books in the series do but it is incredibly enjoyable none the less. I really liked reading about the jobs the 6th graders get over the summer (and I'm quite jealous that Tad managed to get a job at the newspaper so easily.) This series continues to charm me with every instalment and I can't wait to read the 5th and final book.

Still an incredibly cute and fun story. If you've read some of my other reviews you'll know how much I love stories written in letters and email and newspapers and other cool formats so of course I loved these books as a kid and I continue to really enjoy it! In excited to continue on my re read of this series. The mystery in this book unfolds very well even now that I'm older and the characters are just so charming. I still find the writing incredibly clever and fun. This book is written about kids in a 5th grade class and that's about the target age of these books but I still found it to be a fun and incredibly charming read!

The 3rd book in this lovely series was always one of my favorites growing up.Trees at the middle school need to be trimmed and a new Italian chef is in town and his rivalry with the local chef starts an all-out gender war with people swearing off marriage proposing a wall be built to divide men and women (I am not kidding) and even changing the name of the town. This book shows most clearly what I loved about these books as a child and what I love about them now - they don't shy away from topics like gender that some people would say 12-year-olds couldn't understand. These books take their audience seriously and they do it in a way that still makes everything about them very fun and very charming. super excited to continue on my re-read and get to the 4th book!

Book number 2 in the regarding the... series that I'm working my way through while I'm on break. This second book is even better than the first in my opinion. Sam N's 5th-grade class has become Sam N's 6th-grade class and they are trying to find their friend Florence Waters who has gone missing and hoping that she will build them a new cafeteria sink. The mystery in this book is once again very charming and fun and the names continue to be very clever. I think the plot of the book is very fun and you can really see how the characters are growing up and relationships are forming. I can't wait to read the 3rd book because it was always one of my favorites.

"I think you'll be surprised by the insights you can gain during difficult times."

Ivy is bummed out when she breaks her leg, and her best friend Teddy has his own trouble to deal with when the veterinarian tells him his dog is severely ill. It looks like both kids are in for a terrible summer, but their vacation takes a turn at the rise of a mysterious crime wave and another puzzle they endeavor to solve in Mystery on Magnolia Circle by author Kate Klise, illustrated by Celia Krampien.

Well! I'd say this fun double-mystery with good helpings of heart is just right for middle grade readers graduating from chapter books.

Granted, even with Ivy's dry humor, I didn't warm up to her right away. What she calls being grumpy I call being sarcastic and rude to people who are trying to help her. But when she isn't having an attitude, she's actually a caring girl, and she learns some great stuff over the summer.

This story addresses serious issues like grief, mental illness, drugs, rehabilitation, and homelessness in a way that's real but not too complicated or heavy. The young friendships are touching, and the read has its most shining and surprising moments as events come to a head in the last phases.

Definitely an adventure worth checking out.

This was a quick, pleasant read. It took some unexpected turns, but I think it pulled off the story it was trying to tell. I enjoyed the whimsical but deadpan tone and the lovely illustrations.½

A mom and daughter trip crossing paths with a father and son adventure is a really good premise, with a clear enough cast of characters to easily switch perspectives in a way that didn't feel forced. I liked the place descriptions, but didn't love the way some of the characters couldn't see outside their own problems. According to the author note at the back of the book, this idea came from a not some secret admirer left in her own bag on a plane ride, maybe this kind of thing happens more often than I realize? Interesting book, but didn't love it.

Ignatius B. Grumply, an author who hasn't written a new book in more than 20 years, rents an old Victorian house in Ghastly, Illinois for the summer in hopes of finishing a book. It will be the 13th book in his Ghost Tamer series. He's really got to finish it, as he owes back rent, copious amounts of attorney fees and has spent a $100,000 advance from his publisher. He believes a summer of peace and quiet in a big rambling house will help him conquer his writer's block and churn out a book. Boy, is he ever wrong. When he gets to Ghastly, he finds his house inhabited by a little boy, his cat....and a ghost. Turns out the contract he signed to rent the house included care of little Seymour Hope and his cat Shadow. You see, his parents think he is .... well, crazy....because he says he is friends with a ghost in the house named Olive. And, they are big-wig scientists going on a tour of Europe to present proof that ghosts don't exist. What could be more embarrassing to them than a son who says he is friends with a ghost? Needless to say, Grumply is grumpy that he has to share his house with a boy. And the boy and ghost are grumpy that they have to share with Grumply. This book is filled with letters written between all the characters over that magical summer. Can Grumply make friends with his housemates, and write his book??

I think this is one of the most charming and fun children's stories I've ever read! The concept is creative and cute. The illustrations are just as much a part of the story as the text itself. This was fun to read!! There are seven books in this series and I will definitely be reading them all. I think the cutest thing about the story is that all the names are puns: Olive C. Spence, Anita Sale (a real estate agent), Seymour Hope (the little boy) and his parents Les and Diane Hope, Frank N. Beans (private Investigator) and I.B. Grumply. Too cute!

Definitely 5 star rating from me.....what a hoot!! :)
