You can see my review below just after I finished it. As much as I enjoyed it at first, it didn't fully hold up to re-reading. It's not alone in this; the Twilight Saga has much the same problem for me. Still, it's better than some things I've read.

Buy this book. No, seriously. If you enjoy a good story, great characters and adventure, then you are going to love Forges of Dawn. I could break the story down, as I have in other reviews. I could give you a blow-by-blow account of why this book, this series, has earned its place beside my all-time favorites and will not be moving anytime soon.

Instead, I am going to tell you that for the first time in years, an author has bothered to create believable animal characters that still see the world from their own perspective. They are not human, and will never allow you to forget it. Even so, the emotional ride that our heroine finds herself on is no less heart wrenching. You will root for her to win; even when the odds are stacked so high you cannot see how that’s possible.

Life doesn’t always give us what we want. Everyone has to learn this one day. Not everyone survives that lesson, but those who do… become legends.

While the book can hold it's own for awhile, it does not avoid tropes already seen in the fanfiction it came from. Much like 50 Shades, you will find this book started out with a lioness named Uru and a lion named Ahadi after her original mate, Kipendo dies. The story published drifts from the fanfiction just enough, it is predictable and pulls out no stops to mimic many tropes and even create a bad guy who's colours barely skirt outside of the standard black with red markings that sites such as Deviantart are famous for. I would not recommend buying this book, entire scenes and pages can be read online as well as the original story. I can only hope the sequels show more promise, but given the writer does not handle criticism and has spoiled much of the content on their Deviantart page with little to no pacing, it's up in the air now.

Buy it if you enjoy finding typos and reading badly written stories, otherwise, give it a skip and wait until it's available for free.
