The author, a seasoned journalist, accompanies a small band of desperate migrant laborers from the Delhi capital region (actually Ghaziabad) all the way to their home state, Bihar, by road, in the aftermath of the Covid coronavirus pandemic and the overnight lockdown in the country. The account shows the lack of forethought, the utter indifference of the authorities, and the strength and humanism of the ordinary people.
