Daniel Deronda [2002] [DVD] Tekijä: Hugh Bonneville
This is a superb adaptation of a difficult George Eliot book. The romantic and Jewish elements of the plot are fused togather well, and the performances from Romola Garai and Jodhi May in particular are strong. Perhaps the greatest revelation is Hugh Bonneville playing the very unpleasant Grandcourt, a great contrast to his normal upright characters. Fans of the 1995 P&P will delight in David Bamber's odious Mr Lush. The whole production exudes the confidence produced by people who know what they are doing.… (lisätietoja)
I was absolutely gripped by this film, from beginning to end. There's humour here and there, there's pathos, there's a depth of understanding of the loneliness that can come with positions of authority. The royal family come across as real, believable people who are who they are by an accident of birth, often deeply distressed by the responsibilities they must carry.
Very highly recommended indeed.

Breathtaking. It deserved all of the awards it received. And Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway were magnificent, taking this difficult story way past the musical status.
