Written from two points of view, those of the two main characters: Alyson, the world’s last dragon shifter, and Vlad, a 200 year old vampire, both members of a little knowN FBI unit.

I found the mixed POVs confusing as I tend not to read chapter headings. I was frequently two or three paragraphs in before I realised that the POV had changed. It is a common device in romances, but I don’t think it worked well here.

The writing was ‘ok’, but not engaging, and I was not drawn in to care about any of the characters. Magic is used as a ‘get out of jail free’ card. For example, we are told that a certain type of shifter only lives for 200 years, but later discover one that is over 500 years - oh, there must be magic involved. Witches seem to be all powerful, but easily captured and slaughtered. Ditto with ancient and powerful vampires.

I finished the first book and, simply because it was an omnibus, carried on reading the second. This one takes us to Moscow, the mafia and a weird vampire Rat King who lives in the sewers, but apparently doesn’t stink as he takes Alyson and Vlad to a restaurant with ho problems.

I abandoned the book and decided to find something better.… (lisätietoja)
