NCLA Review: It is acknowledged at the beginning of the book that several singles whom the authors describe as being transparent, courageous, inspiring, fun, profound and amazing contributed to the writings of this book. Singles can be defined as never married or single again because of divorce or widowhood. Written not as a preparation for marriage, even though it is discussed, but rather as a preparation for life becoming what God wants us to be in Him. Chapters on decisions that are important to be made are: To Be Decisive, To Walk with Jesus, To Celebrate, To Live in Peace, To Wait, To Define Relationships, To Live the Good Life, To Be an Influencer, To Be a Communicator, and To Be a Competitor. Some of the topics that are discussed, especially in the chapter on relationships, are very candid and may not be acceptable in some church libraries. Rating: 2 —ARG

This book provides a humorous insight into both sexes, enabling you to not only understand why your partner behaves the way he or she does, but also enables you to reflect on your own personality. The book then explores ways of enhancing your marriage through communication, romance, physical intimacy and resolving conflict. Discussion questions are provided for home groups or couples to explore what the Bible says in relation to many of the topics covered in the book. This is a wonderful resource to assist couples in becoming close and having a marriage that God intended.

This is a book that not only celebrates the differences between men and women, but also pokes fun at those differences and offers constructive ways to improve your marriage. I listened to the audiobook version at my desk while at work. There were times when I laughed out loud at some of the stories or jokes being told. And of course there were some really good, serious points made as well. And the Farrel's do not sidestep some of the major challenges most married couples face like sex and parenting roles. Rather, they jump right in and offer their analysis of the issues, what works for them in their marriage, and what might work for you and I in our marriages.
I wouldn't say any particular portion of the book was earth-shatteringly new information. If you've read books by Gary Smalley or John Gray, you'll certainly be familiar with many of the topics addressed here. After all, the issues married couples deal with do tend to be very similar from couple to couple. However, I found that the way the Farrel's presented the topics to be entertaining and relevant. And many of the chapters served as a great reminder for me personally on the reasons my wife and I process life differently at times. I really liked their Christ-centered view of marriage and the way we should deal with our differences.
Overall, I think this is a great book. One that every married couple should read (or listen to). You'll laugh and say "great point" to yourself the entire way. You might also say, "So that's why my spouse reacts that way sometimes?".
And if you take to heart the message the book is presenting and put some of those practical suggestions to work for you, I am confident your marriage will improve
