In 1930 the author sold her possessions and went to live with the poor in the slums of Toronto where she founded the first Friendship House the intensity of her faith led others to join her. Four years later she and her husband founded Madonna House in Combermere Ontario a rural settlement house which quickly developed into a training center for the lay apostolate.
